‘Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed because His compassion’s fail not, they are new every morning, great is your faithfulness’. Lamentations 3: 23.
The Lord’s blessing to you all.
When I get up in the morning, I sound like a breakfast cereal – snap, crackle and pop. Have you noticed as we get older, how the hills get steeper, the bus gets faster, the writing gets smaller, and the mirrors are not very kind?
This Easter, we desired to walk around the island with the cross for the first time in 3 years. My only problem was I am suffering from tendon trouble and so have difficulty walking.
All the years before I was able to walk in my own strength. This time was entirely different, physi-cally it was impossible but I said to the lads that we’ll have to see what happens when I put the cross on my shoulder. The Lord graciously allowed me to walk around the island with the cross and we had a blessed time sharing the Gospel with people. As soon as we’d finished, I couldn’t walk again and am still having troubles now, Praise the Lord! I thank the Lord for showing me that it’s in His strength that He is glorified.
I’ve been studying Jeremiah, one interesting bit (please look for yourself) Jeremiah 42v7,43v7,
44v28. When the captains of the forces asked Jeremiah to pray, it took Jeremiah 10 days to come back to them with an answer. Today we live in a superfast 5G world – chicken ding in 3 minutes in the microwave. Is there a danger that our church life can become the same? They weren’t in-terested in what Jeremiah had to say only to seek approval for their plan, not God’s direction. It struck me that do we seek God’s approval for our plans and desires rather than asking Him for guidance? If we make plans, are we willing to allow God to change them? And when we pray are we willing to accept God’s answer? We’ve no need to be afraid because God will give us the abil-ity to serve His purpose. ‘The Lord is my portion says my soul, therefore I hope in Him.
The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him’ – Lamentations 3 v 24,25.

Sharing our Faith
In Genesis 1 verse 31 it says that “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good”. I had with my family the recent opportunity to stay on Lindisfarne (Holy Island). The views on the island were beautiful and listening to the bird and seal songs each day made us appreciate God’s wondrous creation. According to scripture “We also are fearfully and wonderful-ly made”. Many visit this island for various reasons. Some visit for spiritual enlightenment as Christianity was spread from there to other parts of the country. The monks had a mission to spread the message of hope that we have in Christ Jesus. As I reflect on my own visit to that holy place, what influence do I make in sharing the “Good news”? The Apostle Paul in his letters to the churches sought to encourage and build up his fellow believers. We too have been given the task, let us not tire of doing good and share our faith with those who need to hear and see in our lives the reality of living for Jesus. A Royal Throne and a Place to Stand
Over the recent Bank Holiday we have been celebrating the Platinum Jubilee of our long serv-ing Queen Elizabeth II. This jubilee stands unique amongst monarchs who have gone before and those who may arise in the future. It has not just touched our nation but also far and wide around the globe. The Queen has served faithfully now for 70 years. Many find hope and com-fort at this time with the joy and common identity we share. We have all grown up with her majesty as our living figurehead. It may also bring a sense of relief from the burdens of the world with a joining together of so many in remembrance of the royal reign.
As true as this is, Her Majesty the Queen herself has confessed her trust in our Lord Jesus Christ and she has her hope in a higher throne far above all earthly power. This is a throne to whom all must stand and give an account one day whoever we are. It is also to be said that no human endeavour, no rich and powerful person, no worldly kingdom or those with a brilliant mind bring us true hope and meet our deepest need.
Many have aimed and tried to fathom the mysteries of life and to answer our deepest questions. I think of one certain man from antiquity who lived and died over 200 years before the Lord’s first Advent. He wrote a book entitled ‘The Sand Reckoner’ and in this book he set out to calcu-late the number of grains of sands in the whole universe. His results were a minute fraction off of modern physicists. His other keen developments were around the study of leverage. From this, he is known to have been behind the enhancement of weaponry used in battles in the Ro-man era. As for his development of the mastery of leverage he is believed to have said some-thing like this: ’Give me a length of wood and a place to stand and I can turn the world upside down’.
While we would certainly celebrate someone of Archimedes calibre, we are pointed to the one who has already numbered every grain of sand and reigns over all as creator, judge and king, but also reveals Himself as the Saviour of the world. He was given a length of wood and a place to stand. He bore the cross at Calvary! Being the Son of God (though He Himself needs nothing from us) and demonstrating His love for us, He humbled Himself in our human likeness to complete what we could not do. Or any human ruler could do but to pay the penalty that was ours and bringing us eternal peace. Philippians 2: 5-10; Colossians 1: 13-20: Hebrews 1: 1-3.
While we gather to remember one historical Jubilee, we uphold an eternal Jubilee of God who through Jesus has cancelled our debt and redeemed sinners as His own. Whatever position in life and whatever situation we find ourselves in these troubled and turbulent times we know the dear Lord will finish the work He started in us. We can cast all of our care on Him for He cares for us.
