About Us

The TeamThe bus outreach endeavours to share the gospel of Jesus Christ on the streets of the Isle of Wight.
The vision of the bus (or the “God Pod” as it is now called by the young people who visit it) is becoming better known among local Christians. It is proving to be a successful way of reaching those who, for a variety of reasons, would never otherwise hear of Jesus Christ.

Since 1994 there has been a night-time presence in Newport on a Thursday and Friday (and Friday) of each week. More recently the bus is now regularly out at Freshwater on a Tuesday evening and at Ventnor on a Wednesday evening. It is essential that we are there for those who have a need, this means that we support mainly the young people out on the streets, who are particularly vulnerable to the problems and excesses of today’s society, help can be required in many forms and no one in need is turned away.

The success of the original work led to the acquisition of a bus, converted by members of the bus team, so that the Gospel can be shared more effectively. This outreach has become a registered charity with Trustees to promote and oversee it’s future. We look to extending further the outreach possibilities and staffing for the future.

The Vision

Image From Side of BusNight time in our towns and cities would open the eyes of many people to the street culture. If you think this does not include the Isle of Wight, then think again. There is a state of crisis out there and all the indications are that it is getting worse. Alcohol, hard drugs, sex abuse and physical violence are all too common and the Bus team are continually learning to deal with new problems.

The Bus has been successful, but in order to expand it’s outreach even further there is a need for loyal support. Finance is an obvious factor, but as a Christian outreach there is a real need for regular prayer support. This can involve all Christians and it is important to cover the work with prayer (24/7) 24 hours a day. A minimum of 15 minutes of individual prayer daily makes a real difference. A hundred people committed in this way could cover the whole day.

Our long term vision is to support the Bus outreach in such a way that we could be out in many of the Island’s towns and villages up to 6 days each week, this could lead to the possibility of needing several buses and full time workers.
